In the beverage factory, the water filling machine is an engine of absolute precision. While the process of pouring water into a bottle seems simple, doing so at speeds of up to 24,000 bottles per hour requires a sophisticated mastery of gravity and atmospheric pressure.
At Chenyu Machinery, we engineer our filling systems based on the gravity filling principle, a method that ensures the highest purity while maintaining a calm, laminar flow of liquid.
Intake and Reservoir Phase:
The process begins in the overhead filling bowl (reservoir). Here, the purified water is kept at a constant level by a high-sensitivity float valve or an electronic level sensor. This constant “head pressure” is vital because it ensures that the velocity of the water entering every bottle remains identical.
Hermetic Seal and Air-Return Cycle:
As the bottle is lifted by the mechanical pedestal, it makes firm contact with the filling valve’s silicone gasket, creating a Hermetic Seal.
- Physics: Once the seal is formed, the filling valve opens. However, liquid cannot enter unless the air inside the bottle has a way out.
- Solution: Our valves feature a specialized Air-Return Tube that extends into the bottle. As the water flows down the sides of the bottle via gravity, the air is pushed up through this tube and back into the top of the filling bowl.
Precision Leveling Mechanism:
The filling process stops not by a timer, but by the physical position of the air-return tube. Once the rising water level reaches the bottom of the air-return tube, it blocks the path for escaping air.
The Result: Without a vent for the air, the water flow stops instantly due to the equilibrium of internal pressure. This “Liquid-Level Principle” ensures that every bottle on the shelf has an identical fill height, within a tolerance of ±1mm.
Snifting and Descent Stage:
Before the bottle is lowered, a tiny “snifting” valve allows any residual pressure to equalize with the atmosphere. The bottle then descends smoothly and moves toward the capping station, while the filling valve shuts tight to prevent dripping.
FAQ:
Q1: Why is “gravity filling” preferred over “pump filling” for water?
A: Gravity filling is simpler, more hygienic, and easier to maintain. Because it relies on natural physics rather than mechanical pumps for every valve, it prevents “agitation” of the water and ensures there are no mechanical seals that could leak oil or contaminants into the product.
Q2: How do you adjust the fill level if I want to change bottle sizes?
A: The fill height is determined by the length of the air-return tube. On Chenyu Machinery systems, these tubes can be adjusted or swapped out. For minor adjustments, the height of the entire filling bowl can be raised or lowered via the HMI (Touch Screen) control.
Q3: Does the machine work the same way for thick liquids like juice or oil?
A: No. Thick liquids (high viscosity) often require Piston Filling or Vacuum Filling to force the liquid into the bottle. Gravity filling is specifically optimized for “thin” liquids with low viscosity, such as mineral water, distilled water, and clear tea.
