What are Carbonated Beverages?

Carbonated beverages, commonly known as soda or soft drinks, are beverages produced by dissolving carbon dioxide gas in water under high pressure. Common examples include Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fanta.

How Does Carbonated Beverage Filling Machine Work?

The working principle of carbonated beverage filling machine is primarily based on the isobaric filling principle. Its core objective is to ensure that the carbon dioxide gas in the carbonated beverage does not rapidly escape due to a sudden pressure drop during the filling process, thereby preserving the taste and carbonation level of the beverage.

1. Empty bottles are transported into the filler via a conveyor belt and are precisely lifted, allowing the bottle mouth to tightly connect with the filling valve, forming a sealed state.

2. The filling valve injects carbon dioxide gas into the empty bottle, rapidly increasing the internal pressure until it equals the pressure inside the filler’s liquid storage tank. This “isobaric” environment effectively prevents the carbon dioxide from escaping from the beverage during the subsequent filling process.

3. Under the condition of pressure equilibrium, the liquid channel of the filling valve opens. The beverage flows steadily from the storage tank into the bottle through the liquid tube of the valve, driven by gravity or a slight pressure difference. Simultaneously, the gas inside the bottle is pushed back to the top of the storage tank through a separate gas tube to maintain dynamic pressure balance.

4. When the liquid level inside the bottle rises to a predetermined height (typically controlled by a level sensor or mechanical device), the filling valve immediately closes the liquid channel to stop the filling process. Subsequently, the filling valve separates from the bottle mouth, and the residual pressurized gas in the bottle headspace is released in a controlled manner to prevent splashing when the cap is opened.

5. The filled and degassed bottles are discharged from the carbonated beverage bottling machine and transported to the next station (usually a capping machine) for sealing, thereby fully preserving the carbonation level and flavor of the beverage.
